CHAPTERS 9 THROUGH 17

 To Summarize  chapter  9 through 17, we see loyalty as well as betrayal through out the chapters. After the rape incident  Amir felt guilty, so he put his birthday present money, and watch under Hassan's bed and then told Baba that Hassan had stolen his present, because he wanted Ali and Hassan  out of the house, so he would not have to feel guilty of what he had witnessed. As the story progresses Afghanistan is turned into something Amir cannot even recognize anymore. Amir and Baba move to the states, After Amir marrying Baba passes away. Amir then has a child and is living a pleasant life when getting a call from an old friend who lives in pakistan. After that visit, everything that Amir thought he knew changes. 

In chapter nine the guilt that Amir has been holding inside himself is eating him away, he decides that his life will be easier without having to look at Hassan everyday, Amir sabotages Hassan by putting his christmas gifts under Hassans bed as if he stole them and then told Baba. Hassan plays along with the sabotage and admits to doing it, even though he did not. The following days Hassan and Ali left the house, even though Baba forgave Hassan for doing it. In chapter ten the story inhances when they sneak themselves into Pakistan in the back of a gas tank. Through the process of running away they have to wait a week in a basement because of transportation complications. While inside the basement Amir recognizes Kamal, one of the boys who had helped Hassan be raped, and learns that he was also raped by 4 soldiers. I think Kamal's raping is a symbol for karma since he had helped Hassan be raped too. 

In chapter eleven Amir and Baba are already living in the United States of America. They have problems adjusting but they are doing okay. Amir graduates high school and decides on becoming a writer, although Baba does not like that proffession for him, Amir will not change his mind. In chapters twelve and thirteen Amir finds out that Baba has cancer, before it getting any worse Amir gets Baba to ask Soroyas dad for Soroyas hand in marriage. Her father accepts and they happily get married, a couple days after Baba dies. Amirs writing career is going well for him, and Soroya tries to get pregnant, her first baby which was a little girl was born dead, then there second baby which is a boy is born very healthy and alive. 

In chapters 14, 15,16 and 17 the story progresses into the future when Amir gets a call from Rahim Khan who was living in Pakistan and also dying, Amir had not seen him in 20 years. Amir goes to visit him in Pakistan as Rahim requested and they talk about everything that had happened in the last 20 years. Rahim then starts to tell Amir about Hassan and about his past life. It turns out that Hassan was killed as long with his wife while living in Amirs house. He had a son that is now in a orphanage in Afghanistan. Rahim talks more about Hassans past, then mentions that Ali was not capable of having babies, and Baba was actually the father of Hassan the whole time. Amir grows angry for never knowing this. Amir leaves to go find Hassans son because he feels that he owes it to him. 

These chapters were very intense and sometimes hard to understand because of how powerful it was. These chapters were a lot more interesting then the past chapters because it was more instense. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLtavGjAOJY
